This morning, Monday, February 08, 2021, the Presidency of the House of Representatives in Sana’a prevented MP Ahmed Saif Hashid from entering the meeting room.
Representative Hashid said that he was prevented from entering the meeting room under the directives of the Presidency of the Council, so he decided to sit in front of the hall, but a number of deputies showed solidarity with him, and let him enter the hall despite the presidency’s orders not to enter.
The head of the council, Yahya al-Ra’i, had ordered the forcible removal of Hashed from the council’s hall, yesterday, Sunday, pending his demand to bring down the council’s final accounts for the past four years to the hall for discussion.
And the Vice-President of the Council, Abdel Salam Zabiya, had threatened Hashid to break his head and tried to clash with him, after Hashid insisted on requesting the final accounts, which were crossed off the agenda of the current session of the Council.
The attack on MP Hashid sparked a wide campaign of solidarity with him, in which journalists, human rights defenders, writers, lawyers, civil society leaders, activists and intellectuals from different sectors of society participated.
